Story

She believed She could, and so She did.

For years, under the umbrella of She Bangs ToolSchool, I have been concerned about the growing cohort of women over 55 experiencing homelessness. This September, I am doing something about it. I’m taking part in the Live Like Her Challenge – for one night I’ll be sleeping out in the #SheCanVan to raise money to support this often overlooked group.

Across Australia every night, single mums, grandmothers, ordinary women like you and me are forced to sleep in their cars, or couchsurf, because in a housing crisis, older women are bearing the brunt of a lack of safe and affordable homes. Everybody deserves dignified shelter.

#Vanlife is only fun when you choose it.

I am asking for your donation to the RRRuTH fundraising team for the Live Like Her Challenge in Brisbane on 3rd September. Together, we can shine a spotlight on this wicked problem. RRRuTH is about solutions, and your sponsorship of me for my one night sleeping rough can help raise critical funds for The Forgotten Women to support these older women into housing.

Please show you care, because I KNOW that you do.

The Forgotten Women

The Forgotten Women is Mangrove Community Homes' flagship project, a unique, grassroots housing initiative dedicated to women over 55 experiencing homelessness - the fastest growing cohort in Australia today. The Forgotten Women's mission is simple: to put a safe roof over the heads of as many vulnerable older women as possible. Through the acquisition of suitable properties, the project provides secure, safe, affordable housing that enables older women to age in place with security, stability and dignity.
